Glass Blowing – Sherlock Pipe – Glass4Life – From glass to art.

My friend Glass4Life making two Sherlock (one is Rastafarian colors) tobacco pipes. I tried to show the process of making one, but was told afterwords that I cut the footage together from the creation of two different pieces. Watch glass melt. This video was recorded on a Sony Handycam DCR-HC36 :)

I digg your vids. I was wondering if maybe you had the time you could send me some links as to how to get started blowing glass. I live in Knoxville, Tn and there isn’t anything like this around my area. I’ve never done this before and would like to know where you buy your materials from and how to color the glass….Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again for your vid, I liked it a lot. Hope to hear from you man…….. (waiting in anticipation)

So in the first scenes, you are making a clear bubble. Then it jumps to colored tube. Did you stripe the clear tube and pull it down? Thanks.

Even glass that is made for this explodes some times. I would not recommend trying anything but glass blowing supply stuff. They use special drill bits to make bottles like in to bongs and such mainly I believe.

and is it safe to use glass around your house (vodka bottles etc.) instead of those rods/tubes? or is there a specific kind of “clean glass” you gotta use. thanks

It all depends on your level of dedication. My friend has taken care of his family for 13 years doing it now. Lots of people make a good living, some a much better living blowing glass. Its not something you should dive into as a way to support yourself from the start. Study it first, have it as a serious hobby, but unless your a genius raw natural talent your not going to make your living doing it. Finding a glass blowing shop to become an apprentice at would be a smart move.

So can you tell me honestly if glass blowing is worth getting into for the that money? Like can you make a lot of money off of the things that you make? Don’t get me wrong i love the work and time put into these pieces but can you actually make some good money off of it is what im saying? Like is it worth the money to go to school for it? please respond cus i am thinking about being a glass blower in the future.

I will tell you if you promise not to fuck me when I am dead. The torch and kiln are the most expensive. He paid $1500 for the Carlisle torch and that was a deal. The kiln I believe was $2000, counting the cost of having a 220 electrical plug installed in the shop. Then you have rental or purchase price of the oxygen and propane tanks. Then your basic tubing and color to start. Do not forget a good life insurance policy if you try to do this without training.
